Name: Marceline Abadeer (which I'll just keep the same for her reincarnation.)
Canon and medium: Adventure Time, cartoon
Age: Pre: At least 1003 years old. Re: 19
Preincarnation Species: (Half-)Demon/Vampire
Preincarnation Appearance: Link here.
Any differences: Obviously since she's no longer a demon or a vampire, her skin isn't blue/gray-ish, but rather brown and her ears aren't pointy. Her hair, while still very long and wild, doesn't reach to her ankles, just to her lower back. The two bite marks on her neck are missing. It's not clear what her eye color is in the show (though from what they look like in her transformations, it can be assumed they are either green or red), but now they're brown. That's about it.
Preincarnated History: Marceline @ the Adventure Time Wiki
(Important note: Due to a lot of vagueness and mystery in the show, the order of some events is still unknown, so I mainly just guessed.)
About a thousand years ago, little Marceline was but a kid in the aftermath of the Mushroom War; a terrible war that basically destroyed the world and likely had something to do with nuclear weapons. At first all alone, soon she met and befriended an archeologist by the name of Simon Petrikov. The two stuck together, trying their best to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. It's not known how long they were together, but it was at least long enough for Marceline to get very attached to Simon. The teddy bear he gave her, named Hambo, became her most valued possession.
However not all was well, as Simon owned a peculiar crown. When worn, the crown gives the wearer powerful ice magic and either immortality or a much expanded lifespan, but it also takes over their mind, slowly deteriorating it. Each time Simon wore the crown, he lost more of himself, becoming more manic and forgetting things, as well as physically changing. The whole process scared Marceline a lot, but there was little she could do about it, as Simon usually wore the crown solely to protect her.
It's not certain how long it took or what happened in the meantime, but by the time she's a teenager, Marceline and Simon are no longer travelling together.
It's also when she's around that age that her dad eats her fries, which she was very hurt by, enough to remember it much, much later and write a song about.
There's not many details available for what happens next, but Marceline leads a very busy life. She becomes a Vampire and stops aging, overthrows the Vampire King and becomes the Vampire Queen, joined up with a gang of ghosts and who knows what else.
She was also involved with a wizard named Ash at some point and they even moved in together. Eventually though, Ash sells Marceline's beloved Hambo to a witch, leading her to break up with him.
Years later, Marceline goes back to the tree house she and Ash once lived in together, which is now inhabited by Finn the Human and Jake the Dog. She introduces herself, thanks them for looking after the place and then kicks them out into the rain. Then, once they've found a cave to live in, she tries to kick them out of there, but decides to try to take Jake instead when Finn says it doesn't matter what she does, as long as he has him. Finn fights a transformed Marceline and, once he manages to actually hurt her, she transforms back. She decides to let them have their old house again, as she thinks they're cool.
From that point, she and Finn are buddies. Jake is still scared of her the next few times, but even he warms up to her eventually.
At one point, when Finn hears her singing about her relationship with her dad, he decides to summon him for her, despite her not wanting to see him. This goes... kind of poorly, as her dad decides to go around and steal souls in the mortal world, but eventually he hears her song too and is actually regretful. He confesses that he does love her and the two start to talk... but Finn attacks him, frees the souls he ate and kicks him back into the Nightosphere.
In 'Memory of a Memory', Ash reappears in Marceline's life, tricking Finn and Jake into removing her memory of breaking up with him, making her think they're still a couple. Thankfully, Finn manages to show her his memory of her memory (just go with it...) and she breaks up with him again. By kicking him a lot.
In 'What Was Missing', Marceline manages to reconcile a little with Princess Bubblegum, who she apparently had a falling out with in the past.
She has another encounter with her dad when she invites Finn and Jake to the Nightosphere to hang out. Her dad tries to convince her to become the new ruler of the Nightosphere, but she refuses. However, he gives her an amulet, which transforms her into a demon form against her will, forcing her to become the new ruler. Finn and Jake manage to remove the amulet, bringing her back to normal and they leave the Nightosphere. She even manages to have a heart-to-heart talk with her dad at the end of the episode.
In 'I Remember You', Simon (or the Ice King, as he is now known as) comes back into her life once more, because he wants her to help him write a song. It's revealed that, despite him not remembering her, he still visits her. Marceline also finds a note Simon wrote when he still remembered her, apologizing for what the crown has done to him and asking her to please forgive him. Starting from that episode, Marceline hangs out with Ice King more often.
Marceline finally gets her precious Hambo back in 'Sky Witch', together with Bubblegum's help. They track down the witch that Ash sold Hambo to. Marceline herself spends most of the episode beating up her familiar, while Bubblegum tries to convince the witch to give up Hambo. She refuses, but is swayed when Bubblegum trades the shirt Marceline once gave her for it. Marceline is unaware of this trade, but is overjoyed to have her teddy bear back.
Reincarnated History: Originally born in Locke City, Marceline lived with her parents happily for years. They were a normal family, with her father being a businessman and her mother a housewife. Except eventually, while Marceline was still very young, her mother left. Though Marceline tried to contact her many times in her life, she never received word back.
Afterwards, Marceline and her dad grew distant from each other, causing her to become lonely. This was not helped by her experiences growing up. As she had trouble making friends, she latched on to the first people that accepted her. This led her to fall in with a bad crowd and the friends she made were hardly friends at all. One day they took her along while shoplifting and then let her take the fall without so much as a word when they got caught.
After finishing high school, Marceline decided to take a break from school. By running away from home together with the guy she fell in love with. Yes, just like before, Marceline made the mistake of latching on too quickly. After meeting a guy at some party and dating him for a few months, she left Locke City with him. Only to figure out after a few months of living together with him that he was a complete asshole. It was when she discovered that he was cheating on her that she finally decided to dump him.
She traveled around the country for a while, a little aimlessly. Mere weeks before her first echo, she came back to Locke City, getting herself a shitty waitress job to support herself and renting her own very cheap apartment.
First Echo: While at a fast food place, she left her table for a bathroom break. When she returned, some kid was in the middle of eating her fries. After yelling at him some, she echoed back the memory of the 'Fry Song', a song she wrote about her dad, well... eating her fries.
Preincarnation Personality: Marceline is very much the type of girl who does what she wants and, for the most part, only cares about her own needs. She's not evil, despite initial appearances, but she's not exactly nice either. She can be very friendly when she wants to be, even mellow, but she's not emphatic towards strangers. When her father goes around stealing souls in Ooo, the only reason she comes with Finn to stop him is that he took her axe-bass, while the souls didn't really matter to her.
Her selfishness is immediately clear. During her very first appearance, she kicks Finn and Jake out of their home without a second thought and does it again once they've found a new home, despite clearly having more than enough places to crash herself. While she later becomes friends with the pair, before that she really could not care less about them, only herself.
When it comes to people she cares about, though, it's a different story. She can still be mean-spirited, but never outright malicious. Playing tricks or being rude is a-okay to her when it comes to her friends, but she doesn't like seeing them outright hurt.
Not that she lets anyone know this easily. She's closed-off, often acting like she doesn't care about anyone and doesn't need friends. But actually, she loves hanging out with them and cares a whole lot. In 'What Was Missing', when the Door Lord takes a precious item from each of the characters, they find out that he didn't take anything from Marceline at all and she just wanted to hang with them. Which she immediately denied, because Marceline doesn't want people to know about those parts of her.
This is also shown in her relationship with her father, Hunson Abadeer. In the first episode he appears in, Marceline acts likes she hates him and just wants to be away from him, while she really just wants to know that he cares about her. Once he admits that he does, she warms up considerably towards him and even visits him in the Nightosphere in later episodes. Though, again, she becomes very embarrassed when it's pointed out to her.
In general, Marceline is a very emotional person and isn't very good at hiding it. She'll quickly become aggressive when wronged, like when Ash sold her teddy bear or her father took her bass. This is often combined with her changing her shape, making herself look more monstrous with glowing red eyes. During 'What Was Missing', she acts aggressive towards Bubblegum, but has a lot more trouble keeping it up as she really does want to reconcile with her. At one point when she yells at her, there's tears in Marceline's eyes.
She's a lot better about expressing herself while singing. Again during 'What Was Missing', she sings a song about how she shouldn't have to justify herself to Bubblegum and that she shouldn't have to be the one to make up... but she wants to. Though she catches herself and tries to act like she's still mad. Another time is during 'I Remember You', where she finally manages to express to Ice King that she's happy to see him, but frustrated because he's crazy through song.
Other than that, Marceline is very mischievous, taking great pleasure from tricking people. In an early episode, she keeps tricking Finn into ticking she's going to do something evil, only for there to be some twist and have it be something good instead. She can't help it, she just likes messing with people. But she always stops things before they get too far, because again, she's a trickster, not evil.
She's also a daredevil, which isn't that surprising considering she's super powerful and immortal. Her idea of fun is different from other people's. Sure, she likes hanging out, writing songs, watching movies, that sort of thing. But she also likes riding giant goldfish or running with wolves. Not even when transformed into a wolf form, but just getting on all fours and running around with wolves and fighting them.
All in all, while she can be very emotional, for the most part Marceline is pretty mellow. She doesn't care at all that Finn and Jake snuck into her house during 'Marceline's Closet', despite putting up a note telling them not to. (Although that's partially because she sneaks into their house all the time.) She also doesn't care when Finn manages to hurt her in her first appearance, instead finding it kinda funny and it even convinces her to start liking Finn.
Any differences: While her other self can be described as a cool rocker chick with violent tendencies, the new Marceline is... basically that, minus the violent part.
She's more empathic, caring about what happens to others even if she doesn't know them well. Although she still has trouble expressing her true feeling openly, her caring side slips out more and she'll often show concern for others freely. However, due to her past experiences, she does have some big trust issues and she's scared to get too close to others.
Another issue she has is pride. She hates accepting help and wants to be able to be independent, even if it's difficult. it's for that reason that when she came back to Locke City, she didn't go back to her dad. She wanted to prove that she didn't need his help.
She's an intelligent young woman, but she's also lazy, meaning that she wasn't the best student while still in school. She's the type of person that provides good results when she applies herself, but getting her to do that is the tricky part. She has very few things she's truly passionate about. About the only thing is playing the bass.
Because she has trouble finding something she's passionate about, she's a little lost in life, trying to find something she wants to do. She had hoped that she would find it while drifting through the country after dumping her boyfriend, but sadly she didn't. At the moment, she's still looking for something meaningful to do.
She's still fun-loving, but her trickster side comes out less through pranks and more through teasing and sarcasm.
Abilities: Considering Marceline is both a demon and a vampire, it's unknown how many powers are due to her being a vampire and how many are due to her demonic heritage. Not that it matters a whole lot, considering she has a ton of powers either way, but I figured I'd note it anyway.
-Immortality: Marceline is (seemingly) immortal as well as un-aging, as she's a thousand years old but still looks like a young adult. While she can likely still be killed by other means, she won't be dying from old age.
-Levitation: Marceline can levitate and she can do it instinctively, to the point where she can even sleep while levitating.
-Shapeshifting: Marceline can change shape into a multitude of monstrous forms. It's unknown what her limits are, but the forms known so far are: a bat form, a wolf form, a massive monster with many tentacles and a form that mostly resembles herself (but more monstrous). There's also some lower key transformations that she does, where she turns her eyes red and makes her fangs grow.
-Invisibility: Marceline can turn herself completely invisible, which is not limited by what she wears.
-Necromancy: She can raise the dead by reciting an incantation, as shown in an episode.
-Telekinesis: Not much elaboration needed here, she can just move things with her mind.
-Pyrokinesis: It's not made very clear, but Marceline seems to have some control over fire. During her first appearance, she lights all the candles in the room with ease. In 'Heat Signature', her eyes become fiery at one point and keep being so for a while, making it unlikely to be a one-time visual gag. Still, any control she has is likely minor.
-Healing: Marceline seems to heal very quickly, at least from damage from the sun.
Getting into her being a vampire a little more, Marceline does not drink blood. Instead, she drinks shades of red (pink is acceptable, but not as filling). Whatever she drains the color from will either lose the color and turn white, or shrivel up. Going without red for too long will make her turn feral and monstrous until she can feed again.
More like traditional vampires, she's vulnerable to sunlight. But only direct exposure. As long as she's covered up somehow, she can be in sunlight all she wants, though apparently it stings a little. Once the sun shines directly on her though, it hurts a lot and she starts basically burning up, with horrible boils appearing just seconds after exposure.
Roleplay Sample - Third Person: Another day, another round of crappy tippers. Marceline sat at her table, leaning back in her chair and counting her money. Just barely enough to cover rent, if she skimped a little on the groceries that is.
She groaned, putting her feet on the table and rocking her chair back and forth. Sometimes she wondered if coming back to Locke had been a good idea. Yeah, it had been even harder to support herself, but that way of barely surviving had been almost exciting. Desperately trying to make enough money so she wouldn't get kicked out of her home was just... lame.
Maybe it would be easier to deal with if she didn't have to worry about money so much. She could focus more on the fun stuff in life.
Maybe if she had someone to help her out.
Maybe if...
"Whoa!" Her train of thought was interrupted as she rocked back a little too much, her chair toppling backwards with her in it. She sat up and rubbed her head.
What was she even thinking of doing? Going back to her dad? No way, she didn't need that jerk.
"Stupid Marceline, get yourself together already," she muttered to herself.
Besides, living with a parent as an adult? So not cool. Yeah, she'd be just fine on her own. She liked it better that way anyway.
Roleplay Sample - Network: Alright guys, I know everyone's been getting some super awesome powers and weapons. And hey, good for you, rock on and all that.
But, sorry to say, I've got all of you beat. Too bad, so sad. Are you ready to see a truly cool echo? You'd better be!
[Attached is a picture of her axe-bass, in all its glory.]
Awwww yeah, how about that? Do you guys see this sweetness? It's a bass guitar. And an axe. IN ONE! I can totally smash up some evil aliens and then play myself a victory tune to celebrate!
But hey, who knows, maybe one of you will ever get an echo as cool as that. But I doubt it.
Any Questions? Nothing I can think of right now.
